Danish lighting design of the 1950s was defined by a quiet confidence. Designers focused on proportion, balance, and the relationship between light and the ambiance it creates, in exchange of excess ornament. This period marked a shift toward an approach that valued clarity and everyday use. Floor lamps from the 1950s often reveal an architectural sensibility and were meant to integrate seamlessly into an interior while providing flexible, functional illumination.

This floor lamp combines a slender, arched lacquered metal stem with carefully placed brass details, creating a strong yet restrained visual contrast. The curve of the stem gives the lamp a sense of movement and lift, allowing the shade to stand gently over a seating area or reading spot. The asymmetrical conical shade tapers softly, directing light downward while diffusing it with warmth through the fabric. The base grounds the composition with a solid, elegant form, finished in black with a brass top that echoes the fittings at the shade. Every element feels considered, while the materials and tones create an ideal mix of softness and structure.

Condition:

In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. The lamp has recently been rewired and reconditioned. The shade was custom-made by our in-house atelier. The brass has a beautiful patina with minor imperfections. Due to the nature and age of the materials, the lamp may have marks, scratches, and discolouration.
