Finnish designer Carin Lisa Johansson-Pape, was a pioneering figure of the mid-20th century Finnish design landscape. She designed furniture for Stockmann from 1937 and from 1942, she also designed for the Stockmann-owned lighting factory, Orno, one of Finland’s foremost lighting manufacturers.

Johansson-Pape developed a range of lamps, of which is this model “30-061” floor lamp, that are celebrated today for their timelessness and subtle sophistication. Looking at the lamp’s design and quality, it is clear why this model is commonly referred to as “Ihanne”, Finnish for “ideal”. This floor lamp has a quintessential Nordic modern look, with a combination of interesting material and design choices. It takes a designer with great skill to masterfully combine brass, leather, acrylic, and painted metal, while still managing to maintain a minimalist look. The winding on the tube is especially impressive, connecting the brass base and the socket. The conical fabric shade sits gracefully at the top, expertly diffusing light to create a soft, ambient glow that is both inviting and serene. The mix of the light fabric, golden sheen of the brass, and dark pipe stem offers the model a variety of points of visual interest.

This model is no longer in production unlike some of Johansson-Pape’s other designs. This version of ''Ihanne'' was the first one to be produced in the 1950s and is therefore, a rare find. Lisa Johansson-Pape’s work was presented at international design fairs such as New York’s World Fair of 1939. This classic lamp reflects the refinement that won her an award at the Milan Triennial IX in 1951.
