Mid-century Scandinavian chandeliers often strike a careful balance between structure and ornament, combining functional lighting with a more expressive, decorative silhouette. Unlike stricter modernist fixtures, many designs from the 1940s and 1950s retained a sense of fluidity in their forms, with curved arms and layered compositions softening the overall geometry. In this context, chandeliers were integrated elements that contributed to the atmosphere of a room through both form and light.

This five-arm chandelier is defined by its rhythmic, flowing structure. The central stem extends downward into a series of elegantly curved arms, each branching outward in a controlled yet organic motion. These arms support elongated, tulip-shaped opaline glass shades, in which the tapered forms echo the curvature of the metal structure. The repetition of these elements creates a sense of symmetry, while the organic flow prevents the composition from feeling rigid. The browned brass finish introduces depth and patina, grounding the piece visually and enhancing its material character. The dark metal creates a contract with the light glass shades. When lit, the shades emit a warm, diffused glow, softening the structure and creating an even distribution of light. The interplay between the frame and the luminous glass becomes central to the chandelier’s effect, allowing it to create a striking atmosphere within a range of interiors.

What gives this piece its particular presence is the way its contours flow from the centre. These controlled lines give the chandelier a slightly ornamental quality without relying on excess decoration, making it effective both as a functional light source and as a compositional element within a space.

Condition:

In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. The lamp has recently been reconditioned and rewired. The brass has a beautiful patina. Due to the nature and age of the materials, the lamp may have marks, scratches, and discolouration. The glass has minor chips and imperfections. This lamp is compatible with an E26 / E27 (standard) fitting. All lighting can be converted for US usage.
