The manufacturer Søholm Stentøj (“Søholm Stoneware”) was one of the oldest and most revered names in Danish ceramics. It was founded in Rønne, on the Baltic island of Bornholm, in 1835 and became known for its distinctive ceramic designs, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics. In the middle of the 20th century, Søholm produced a wide range of stoneware in various patterns and shapes, marrying practicality with artistry to create items that feel both grounded and elegant.

This ceramic table lamp exemplifies the Danish mid-modern balance between form and function, by combining a simple silhouette with elegant and unique details. The body of the lamp takes inspiration from a classic bottle shape and showcases a contrast between the slim neck and rounded bottom. This contrast is further highlighted by the bottom segment of the lamp that displays a deep, blue glaze, while the upper section displays a geometric and molecule-like pattern. The stoneware material is deeply textured, highlighting the qualities of organic mediums. The table lamp features a light coloured shade that softens the light, creating a warm, ambient glow, while adding another layer of visual interest and originality through its undulating edge. No aspect of this piece was overlooked in the design process, with the quality craftsmanship being rooted in the rich history of the lamp, as well as in its unique characteristics.

With its refined form and aesthetic, this Søholm Stentøj table lamp is more than a source of light—it is a statement piece that reflects Danish design principles of the mid-century period. Its organic feel and modern influences allow it to blend seamlessly into contemporary settings, while still embodying the unique heritage of mid-century European artistry.
