Hans Bergström was one of Sweden's foremost lighting designers of the twentieth century. Trained as both an architect and designer, he founded Ateljé Lyktan in 1934 while also creating a number of highly regarded models for ASEA during the 1940s. His work is distinguished by an exceptional understanding of proportion and light, combining carefully selected materials with elegant silhouettes that bridge the decorative traditions of the 1930s and 40s and the emerging Scandinavian modernism of the post-war years.

Model “A4460” demonstrates Bergström's refined approach to composition. A broad brass shade dominates the design, its generous conical profile appearing to float effortlessly above a softly illuminated opaline glass diffuser. The glass introduces a unique element, supporting the shade while being visible from both above and from the side. The interplay between these two elements creates a layered effect, directing light while allowing a warm glow to radiate gently through the glass. Below, a slender fluted wooden stem introduces warmth and visual contrast, its vertical emphasis balancing the expansive geometry of the shade above. Brass details at the base and around the fitting unify the composition, while the restrained palette of brass, wood, and opaline glass reflects the material sophistication for which Bergström became known.

Equally successful as a source of ambient illumination and as a sculptural object, model “A4460” possesses a quiet elegance that transcends trends. Its harmonious balance of geometry, material, and light exemplifies the qualities that continue to make Hans Bergström's designs highly sought after.

LYFA traces its origins back to 1903 and occupies an important position within the history of Danish lighting design. Throughout the twentieth century, the company became known for producing fixtures that combined technical innovation with a strong emphasis on aesthetics and craftsmanship. Working with influential designers and skilled manufacturers, LYFA helped establish many of the qualities now associated with Danish lighting: thoughtful functionality, careful material selection, and a belief that light should enhance both the atmosphere and architecture of a space.

This table lamp reflects those principles through an expressive combination of brass and glass. The base is cast in the form of a stylised leaf, its organic contours spreading outward to create a stable base while introducing a decorative quality rooted in nature. From this base rises a slender curved brass arm that arches gracefully forward, giving the lamp a sense of movement and directing attention toward the shade. The shade itself is crafted from amber-coloured glass with softly flaring sides that widen toward the opening. Its warm tone enriches the light, producing a glow that feels intimate and atmospheric. Small mechanical details at the joint between arm and shade make the lamp adjustable, adding a functional dimension without disrupting the overall elegance of the design.

The lamp demonstrates a fascinating dialogue between natural inspiration and technical precision. The leaf-shaped base and flowing arm introduce the organic inspiration, while the adjustable construction and carefully engineered proportions anchor the piece firmly within early modern lighting design. As a result, it functions not only as a source of illumination but also as a sculptural object with a strong visual identity.

Due to the age of the lamp we recommend using LED bulbs.

The 1940s were defined by a dialogue between tradition and modernity. Designers sought to move toward a more progressive future shaped by functionalism and the needs of everyday life. In Scandinavia, these design principles developed into what became known as Scandinavian Modernism, characterised by an approach that emphasised minimalism, quality, and durability. This pair of table lamps, manufactured by Elidus, are a timeless example of how simplicity, combined with thoughtful craftsmanship, can become a work of art in its own right.

Crafted from brass, the gently flared base of this model provides a sense of stability and poise, grounding the composition and mirroring the flared construction of the shade. From the base rises a slender, ribbed stem that introduces a subtle textural contrast with the rest of the lamp. The metal shade rests on three delicate brass supports that ensconce the opal glass, creating an architectural framework that feels both purposeful and sculptural. It hovers gracefully and diffuses light downward in a warm, intimate glow, with its three supports extending through the top and holding the shade in place with spherical brass accent caps. These subtle decorative details help enrich the design, particularly in the brass collar beneath the shade, where small diamond-shaped cut-outs introduce rhythm and lightness to the otherwise solid form. Over time, the brass surfaces of the lamps have developed a gentle patina, enriching the pieces with depth and character while celebrating the natural ageing of the material.

The silhouette of these table lamps is reminiscent of traditional street lanterns, lending them a distinct presence in any interior space. With their balanced proportions and geometric composition, the shape and style of this model “602” table lamp set elevate them beyond mere function, transforming the pair into a confident design statement.

Condition:

In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. The lamps have recently been rewired and reconditioned. The brass has a beautiful patina. Due to the nature and age of the brass, the items may have some marks, scratches, and discolouration. A small chip is present on the glass of one lamp, however it is not visible when the lamp is assembled. Additional imperfections may be present on the glass due to manufacturing inconsistencies and age of the items. These lamps are compatible with an E26 / E27 (standard) fitting. This cantilever table lamp embodies an era of bold aesthetic choices that combined structural shapes with sleek materials. Postmodernism in the 1980s embraced a playful approach to design, making this table lamp not only functional but also a statement that serves to inject energy and individuality into any interior.

The silhouette is the central visual element of this table lamp, with a frosted glass shade suspended from an angular wooden arm, balanced by a contrasting egg-shaped base. The balance between clean linear elements and soft curves creates a composition that feels both dynamic and harmonious. The craftsmanship involved in creating this piece is evident in the seamless construction and attention to detail. The wooden body is carefully carved to highlight the natural grain and warm tones of the material, while the smooth finish enhances the lamp’s tactile appeal. Designed for both stability and elegance, the base grounds the composition without overpowering its refined look. When illuminated, the soft glow of the light allows for a warm, inviting atmosphere to emanate within a space.

While the latter half of the 20th century saw the takeover of mass production and many - now iconic - futuristic designs, this table lamp preserves the value and beauty of master craftsmanship and exquisite materials.

Renowned for his pioneering work in glass and industrial design, Timo Sarpaneva brought sculptural precision and refined craftsmanship to every piece he created. This table lamp was produced for Lilux Lighting in limited numbers by glassworks manufacturer Iittala, and is a piece that reflects the functionalist philosophy of Scandinavian modernism. Founded in 1881 in the Finnish village of the same name, Iittala began manufacturing blown and pressed glass, later becoming a defining name in Scandinavian design and celebrated for its functionalist philosophy that unites beauty with practicality.

The lamp’s design is a masterful study of form and texture. The glass base appears almost fluid, its surface rippling with irregular folds and subtle undulations. These delicate variations catch and reflect light, creating a dynamic interplay of shadow and glow. This gives the piece a captivating presence despite its relatively simple materials and design. The silhouette remains clean and geometric, allowing the expressive, tactile surface of the glass to take centre stage. This design is further elevated by the fabric cone-shaped shade, which provides a soft, diffused light that enhances the ambiance of any room. The result is a lamp that feels both sculptural and functional, a statement of Scandinavian modernism that balances artistry and everyday use.

Minimalist in its overall composition, the design allows each material to speak for itself, highlighting the inherent beauty of both glass and fabric. It is a visually compelling statement for any interior space.

In the decades following the Second World War, Scandinavian lighting design became increasingly defined by a pursuit of simplicity, material honesty, and understated elegance. Rather than ornamental excess, Nordic designers favoured clean proportions, carefully considered materials, and a balance between functionality and sculptural presence. Founded in 1894 by Christian Bergh, Cebe was a Swedish producer of electrical appliances and lighting that used brass, glass, and natural materials to create objects that were both utilitarian and aesthetically rich.

This pair of Cebe model E1251 table lamps feature slender, vertical stems wrapped in a textured, brown leather, giving the pieces tactile and visual warmth. The stems sit atop circular, polished brass bases that provide stability while adding a subtle reflective shine. At the top of each lamp rests a rounded, milky glass shade shaped like a goblet, which diffuses light evenly rather than directing it harshly downward. The shades are attached by a brass element, mirroring the base and balancing the design. The mix of the metal, the leather and the soft opaque finish of the glass makes these lamps well-suited for bedside tables, consoles, or living room side tables. The proportions are tall and elegant without feeling heavy, and the combination of great materials with expert craftsmanship results in a cohesive yet visually complex design that feels distinctly mid-century Scandinavian.

These lamps exemplify the timeless appeal of Swedish mid-century lighting, blending warmth, craftsmanship, and modern simplicity in a way that remains highly relevant today. Their refined materials and balanced silhouette allow them to fit seamlessly into both vintage-inspired and contemporary interiors. Whether used as a matching pair or placed separately, they serve as sleek and elegant accent pieces that elevate their surroundings.

At the turn of the 20th century, Art Nouveau emerged as a reaction against historic revival styles and the mass-production brought about by the Industrial Revolution. It favoured organic lines, natural motifs, and a sense of fluidity. Across Europe, designers sought to create objects that felt alive, drawing inspiration from plants, vines, and patterns found in nature. This table lamp sits firmly within that context, reflecting the period’s fascination with craftsmanship, ornament and atmosphere.

The lamp is defined by its tall, narrow silhouette, which gives it an elegant presence. The brass base honours both utility and beauty, featuring a raised sun design while also grounding the form. Rising from the base, the body leads the eye upward through its verticality, to the elongated white shade and woven lattice cover. This detailing stands put and gives the lamp its soft, organic character, while allowing light to shine through. The brass has developed a warm patina over time, adding depth and character while highlighting the lamp’s age and history. The design feels intentional, allowing the contours, texture, and the interplay between materials to shine. The result is a piece that feels both delicate and bold, a perfect representation of early 20th century European metalwork.

This lamp works beautifully as an accent piece, whether placed on a side table, desk, or console where its form can be fully appreciated. Beyond its function as a source of light, it serves as a sculptural object that adds a historical charm and atmosphere to a space.

The mid-century period was fueled by the development of new materials and technology with stunning results, as seen in this lamp’s design. This piece possesses a futuristic impression that is proof of the era’s creative overflow.

Many Italian designers’ works developed from a tension between usability and style, resulting in outstanding pieces like this table lamp. The architectural precision and trademark Italian elegance can be traced throughout the rounded body and brass rectangular frame. The popularity of brass in the mid-century era can be attributed to its warm and inviting golden hue, which adds warmth to the style's modern aesthetic. Next to the brass, the smoked glass shade stands out with its elongeted shape that resembles a pressed sphere and has a generous size. The smoked effect assures that even when the light is off, the shade has an interesting appearance. Furthermore, thanks to the arrangement of the brass frame and the shade, this piece diffuses the light evenly and brightens the brass beautifully, creating a cosy, warm visual effect. With a combination of interesting material choices and design, this lamp has an innovative, modern look that highlights the piece’s purpose, being just as much a work of art as it is a utilitarian piece.

This one-of-a-kind table lamp is a delightfully distinctive model, with an immediately recognizable look. Design in the mid-century years was fuelled by the development of materials and technology with stunning results as seen in this lamp’s design. It also possesses a futuristic impression that is proof of the era’s designers’ creative overflow.

The design combines sculptural and delicate forms with classic materials and subtle decorative details. The glass shade has a crenate surface with a metal ring on the top. Its peculiar shape resembles a pressed sphere, therefore the pattern is beautifully highlighted. When lit, the opal glass shade produces an atmospheric light that further accentuates the individual lines. At its base, a floral shaped neck connects the glass shade to the metal tripod base. This subtle element shows the mid-century influence that favoured nature inspired embellishments and also marks an aesthetic change in the design as well. The tripod base features sleek, elongated and splayed legs that provide a great contrast to the opal glass. Its straight lines and gold colour adds to the modern edge. Thanks to the legs’ arrangement the lamp looks quite airy, balancing the shade. The long woven fabric cord is a pleasant touch that adds even more material interest and organicity to the overall impression. While the materials used - metal and opal glass - are characteristic of the era, the overall design has a futuristic impression that remains elegant instead of over the top.

Adding illumination to a living space with this stylish table lamp will not only improve the ambience, it will also bring a piece of design history to the space. Apart from the aesthetics, the quality of this model is also true to its mid-century modern heritage.
