This pair of Arts and Crafts chairs is a version of the perhaps most well-known model of German designer, Albert Haberer. The spindle backs and armrests makes the design an immediately recognizable piece of German mid-century design history.
Wood is the most traditional material for furniture, it is organic, elemental, sturdy, and has become very stylish. While during the industrial revolution, furniture manufactured from materials such as steel, aluminium, glass and plastic, began to appear, wood has remained a staple material in furniture manufacturing, especially in Europe. The design of these chairs offers plenty visually with a striking construction and personality. The fan shaped backrests are composed of wooden spindles with horizontal tops, where beautiful leather connections are woven between the spindles and secured with screws that also give the backrests both strength and flexibility. The masterfully sculpted and symmetrically arranged individual spindles continue in the arms in this version of Albert Haberer’s design, elevating the appeal of the individual cherry wood spindles. While these undeniably define the look, the seats and legs are also very appealing. The seats have an appealing oval shape with sculpted edges to accommodate the sitter, while the legs are splayed to provide stability. The expertise of Hermann Fleiner is evident in the woodworking and overall execution of this pair, with precisely sculpted and assembled structures.
Whether it is an armoire in the family room or a chair in the dining room, wood furniture manufacturers of the mid-20th century managed to combine the eternal beauty and practicality of wood. The timeless pieces such as these Albert Haberer models, are sure to last several lifetimes without ever going out of style.

In the manner of French designer Charles Dudouyt’s signature style, this pair of armchairs seamlessly meld a variety of trends thanks to the choice of materials and form. As a major figure in early 20th-century French design, Dudouyt was known for his ability to combine French elaborate classicism and more modernist sensibility. His work often celebrated the raw character of wood, combined with tactile natural fibres, resulting in furniture that feels both grounded and artful.
This pair of armchairs exemplifies the distinctive balance between strength and refined craftsmanship. The chairs feature sturdy wooden frames with a rich, dark finish that accentuates the natural grain and depth of the wood. The defining element is the bold turned spindle legs and front supports, lending a sculptural rhythm and dynamic presence to each piece. The seats and backrests are crafted with woven straw, adding an inviting, organic texture and a sense of warmth. The use of straw not only highlights traditional artisanal techniques but also offers a flexible and breathable seating solution. The wooden form is elemental, with the flat curved armrests showcasing the natural grain of the material. Each leg is skilfully turned to showcase the craftsmanship and attention to detail of the maker.
The woodworking employed in crafting these chairs results in unique, visually interesting structures, capable of withstanding the test of time while retaining their graceful silhouette. With the combination of sculptural craftsmanship and natural materials, these pieces will infuse any space with warmth and personality, while also standing as a testament to European design traditions.
