ASEA is known for producing models which are now considered iconic pieces of Swedish lighting history. ASEA (before 1977: Allmänna Svenska Elektriska Aktiebolaget), was a Swedish electrotechnical company headquartered in Västerås. It was founded in 1883 and was, until 1987, the city's largest industrial company. The historic company has had a decisive impact on how the Swedish electrotechnical industry has developed, but also on international design history. Some of their models, like the ‘Viktoria’, are preserved in museums, while their technical prowess can also be observed in their other pieces - such as this modern brass and cast iron floor lamp.

This floor lamp model seamlessly blends tradition with modernity, reflecting the design ethos of the mid-century period. The lamp's foundation is rooted in the robust cast iron base, ensuring stability. Its warm, golden brass body exudes sophistication through its sleek simplicity. While expressing the straightforwardness so often found in Scandinavian modern design, the structure emphasises the advantages of its use of metal, with brass being the ultimate material of choice of the era. Not only is this piece versatile, but the metal maintains its durability, while allowing for a beautiful vintage patina to develop over time. The top of the lamp features an empire shade with a wavy edge, which gives an added soft, organic impression juxtaposed with the strong metal body. Completing the look of the piece, the off-white shade further offers a natural, cosy feel through the visible fabric grain, which shines through even more when the lamp is turned on.

Their commitment to quality craftsmanship and avant-garde design principles set ASEA apart as pioneers in the Swedish lighting industry. Crafted with precision and aesthetic finesse, from its materials to its design, this floor lamp is a testimony to Swedish ingenuity and talent.
