Strongly influenced by the functional forms of the Bauhaus school in Germany, Danish designers have led the way in furniture design. Danish Modern focused more on the aesthetics of modern design whilst employing the exquisite technique and material familiarity of highly skilled cabinetmakers, evidenced by this armchair.

This beautifully crafted chair is in the classical Danish Modern style, with impeccable edges, sleek minimalism, and subtle curves. The quality of the design is only matched by the outstanding workmanship of the manufacturer. The wood joints are visible on the wooden structure, showing the beautiful joinery technique. The design recalls the armchair models of Ole Wanscher in terms of smooth lines and elegant appearance. The straight lines of the legs, the stretchers and the back are broken by the flowing shape of the arms. The stretchers set parallel between the front and the back legs brace and hold together the legs to provide structural firmness. The legs are tapered, and the back legs are slightly bent. The clean and simple design of this chair is complimented by the wood’s eye-catching pattern and the upholstery. The dark green leather complements the overall modern and elegant look of this model.

Unlike designs from elsewhere, their products weren’t flashy but designed to be well-made and fit a warm, comfortable and welcoming home. Moreover, they were of the firm belief that beautiful and functional objects needn’t be the preserve of the rich but should be accessible to everyone.
