Characterized by functionality, simplicity and clean lines, Scandinavian design is all about harmony. The core principle of design emphasizes the need to be free of anything unnecessary as this stylish mid-century chair shows. Danish designer, Frode Holm is primarily known for his sleek designs that share confident, but gentle lines and shapes.

With its pared-down aesthetic, this armchair is brilliant in its simplicity. Characterized by clean, gently curved lines, tapered legs and the use of both natural and man-made materials. The design is very harmonic, with the legs following the body’s lines, which creates a gentle aesthetic. The upholstery highlights this both in a figurative and literal way as the multicoloured bouclé fabric is lined with brown fabric that matches the beech legs. The lining also emphasizes how the armrests curve outwards, which creates a visually interesting feature. In a classically Danish manner, the back is slightly bent to assure sitting comfort, while the seat and armrests are raised towards the front for added comfort.

This chair was created for Illums Bolighus, which was originally founded in 1925 under the name of BO by Danish entrepreneur Kaj Dessau. Working with his artistic consultant Brita Drewsen, he created a concept that had never been seen before: a store with arranged and furnished interiors, where textiles, appointments, and furniture all interacted as art. The exceptional foresight displayed by both Drewsen and Dessau, as well as their impeccable sense of style and quality, played an important role in the international acclaim long accorded to Danish interior design. This chair has the store’s metal tag on its frame.

In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. The chair has been reupholstered recently in premium greenish bouclé fabric. Each of our items can be re-upholstered by our in-house atelier in a fabric of choice. Please reach out for more information.
