Mid-Century Easy Chair with Dark Sheepskin Upholstery, Sweden 1950s (sold)

Mid-Century Easy Chair with Dark Sheepskin Upholstery, Sweden 1950s (sold)
This classic easy chair was designed in the 1950s, during the most active period of what we know today as mid-century Swedish furniture design. This chair is designed in the typical Scandinavian modern style with a clean and functional look complemented by stylish elements.
The chair’s simple and functional design, starting from the wooden frame’s symmetric lines to the visible joints and screws, is highly representative of the principles of Scandinavian mid-century design. The gently spread out legs are connected by stretchers to assure stability and comfort. The wooden frame appears to be firmly holding, grasping the back- and seat rest, which is even more apparent thanks to the soft, dark sheepskin upholstery. The sheepskin further highlights the round edges of the seat- and back rest, which contrasts nicely with the straight lines of the frame. The design is reminiscent of Alf Svensson’s TeVe chair, which became a Swedish classic for the same characteristics it shares with this chair. The gently bent back, the carefully constructed wooden structure, and the luxurious upholstery on the seat and backrest make both models true Swedish classics.
Based on the design, this model’s main objective was functionality. At the same time, as it can be expected from mid-century Scandinavian design pieces, the aesthetic dimension does not fall behind thanks to the dark sheepskin upholstery and masterfully crafted structure.

Guillerme et Chambron held a central place in mid-century French design, as their work bridged the gap between form and function. With their studio, Votre Maison, the duo developed a design language rooted in expressive silhouettes and a commitment to organic materials, using oak in their most iconic pieces. Their works reflects a deep respect for the art of furniture making and for the people who use their pieces, which is why their designs remain so popular today.
This set of four dining chairs displays the qualities that make Guillerme et Chambron’s work so instantly recognisable. The carved oak frames are shaped in a clean and expressive way. The sabre legs lift the chairs lightly, giving them stability and sturdiness. The backrests showcase a geometric shape, with a round opening carved into the triangular form. This represents the type of small but meaningful detail that defined mid-20th century furniture. A cross structure supports each seat, reinforcing the model while also showcasing expert craftsmanship. Upholstered in a textured bouclé fabric, the seats add warmth to the wood. The contrast between the soft textile and the golden oak creates a harmony that feels thoughtful and balanced. Viewed together, the four chairs create an elegant composition. The individuality of each backrest, the subtle tapering of the legs, and the visible grain of the oak make the set feel both timeless and unique.
Placed around a table, this set shapes the atmosphere of a room with quiet confidence, bringing warmth, craft, and intention into daily life. They represent Votre Maison’s philosophy and remain a reminder of how design can elevate a space. This set stands as an enduring example of French mid-century design at its best.

About the designer:
Robert Guillerme graduated in 1934 from the École Boulle where he excelled in architecture and furniture design. After the Second World War he moved to Lille, in the north of France, where he decorated homes and designed furniture for the well regarded Rogier workshops.
In 1948, Guillerme was joined by his long-time friend, decorator Jacques Chambron in Lille. The following year Guillerme and Chambron met master cabinetmaker Émile Dariosecq, owner of a woodworking shop and the company Votre Maison was born. Together, they defined and imposed a new furniture concept. Thanks to their distinctive creativity, originality, and quality, the Votre Maison quickly became well-known.
The Votre Maison marked the history of French design. Guillerme drew the furniture designs while Chambron played the part of salesman, welcoming and advising clients. The power duo was complemented by Dariosecq, whose workshop took charge of the manufacturing. Together, they defined new furnishings concepts. Well-crafted chair back, polished wood and thick cushions make the reputation of their armchairs and sofas. Votre Maison continued to produce furniture right into the 20th century, with Jacques’ son Hervé Chambron, a designer and graduate of the École Boulle, having taken the reins in 1983.

This set of six dining chairs from Europe reflects the post-war desire to bring warmth, comfort, and handcrafted detail into everyday interiors. The set rejects austerity while embracing the value of natural materials and tactile elements while seamlessly blending form and function with organic honesty.
The use of luxurious sheepskin upholstery speaks to the era’s renewed appreciation for natural textures and artisanal softness, transforming dining chairs from functional necessities into cosy, elegant invitations to linger. The sheepskin’s richness enhances both visual and sensory appeal, its natural warmth and variation creating a focal point providing comfort. Each chair features graceful, solid wooden frames that offer sturdy support for the upholstered cushions, while maintaining a refined profile. The set’s durability is ensured by the multiple stretchers placed between the legs of the chairs. These stretchers give the chairs’ silhouette a more angular impression, perfectly balanced by the soft look of the fabric. Together, the contrast between the tactile softness of the upholstery and the smooth solidity of the wood creates a harmonious dialogue of form and texture.
This set is equally at home in a modern or eclectic interior, offering enduring elegance and comfort. The combination of craftsmanship, natural materials, and timeless proportions makes them a standout set to balance any table.

Wood, in many ways, is more valuable than other materials used in furniture manufacturing because its natural grain guarantees that each piece is unique. This is especially important in the case of this set of five, as each chair is unique but together, they still form a gorgeous set. The love for wood was carried well into the late 20th century, inspired by mid-century modernism.
This Scandinavian set carries with it the same beloved modernist characteristics that were applied to mid-century pieces – simplicity, functionality – and shows the continuing appreciation of quality materials and craftsmanship. The set’s aesthetic is defined by the angled and slatted backrests with three horizontal slats. The slats have a gentle “hill” shape with a rounded top. This structure creates an airy and rhythmic look that is further complemented by the legs’ side stretchers that, like the rest of the frames, have straight lines. The solid wood bodies have strong, confident lines, yet, the set still exudes organic charm resulting from the richly coloured pinewood, the gently rounded edges and the upholstered seats. Pine is a truly versatile wood with strong patterns and grain in various colours. Its natural qualities are decorative elements in themselves, adding to the organic charm of this set that is evocative of the mid-century aesthetic. The seats are upholstered in a soft, light sheepskin that pairs beautifully with the wood’s smooth surface and colour. The resulting look is even more impactful when the five chairs are placed together.
Defined by their clean lines, simplicity of design, high quality materials and excellent joinery, each of these dining chairs was created by exceptionally skilled Scandinavian craftsmen who made sure they are just as durable, sturdy, and functional as their predecessors.

The design of model “6057” dates to 1955, and shows the design heritage of the Bauhaus with unmistakeable mid-century modern touches.
While the appearance of these chairs may seem uncluttered and simple at first glance, they subtly show the influential design schools, the Werkbund design and crafts association, and the Bauhaus legacy, illustrating the interconnections between design and contemporary history, everyday culture and the global political context in divided Germany. A (semi-)official encouraged/forced acceptance of a “gute Form” took place in Germany, which, in both the west and the east, was widely, although not exclusively, understood as a continuation of the reduced, rationalized, ornament free forms of inter-War Functionalist Modernism. These chairs are good examples of this with a streamlined, modernist look. Each of the six chairs is made of quality ash wood with a beautiful grain and colour. The subtly angular structure features straight and curved edges, combining the organicity of traditional craftsmanship and the architectural know-how of mid-century furniture designers, such as Ernst Martin Dettinger. The design is in the vein of the iconic Windsor chair as the backs are constructed of slender spindles that are socketed into the solid wooden seats. The thicker spindles extending downward form the legs, and those extending upward form the backs. The masterfully sculpted and symmetrically arranged individual spindles undeniably define the overall look, but the seats and tapered legs are just as appealing. The seats are upholstered in a soft fabric enhancing the sitting and visual comfort as well.
The design of this set of six offers plenty visually with a striking construction and personality. The details, such as the joinery and woodworking reveal the high quality craftsmanship of the manufacturer, Lucas Schnaidt. Founded in 1890, the Württemberg-based manufacturer is one of the oldest and most respected furniture manufacturers, thanks to its long-standing reputation for innovation.

Rach Finazzi, an Italian designer active from the late 20th century, is recognised for a distinctive approach to furniture-making that merges geometric structures with unique materials. Finazzi’s work often explores unconventional forms and material contrasts, from glass to metal and wood, resulting in pieces that command attention both as functional furniture and as sculptural statements.
This pair of geometric dining chairs is a quintessential example of Finazzi’s design ethos, they are characterised by a striking interplay between angular metal frameworks, natural wood, and plush sheepskin. The chairs rest on slender, black metal legs that intersect to create a dynamic, sculptural base, flowing into the arms. The composition feels both visually light and structurally stable. Adding to the design, the backrests are crafted from solid wood in a dramatically tapered, triangular form. The backs introduce an architectural element that draws the eye upward, establishing a visual dialogue between the angular metal structure and the natural wood grain. To fully drive in the textural juxtaposition, the seats are upholstered in longhair sheepskin, adding a warm, inviting texture that contrasts beautifully with the cool, industrial feel of the metal frame and the earthy wooden backrest.
More than just seating, this pair functions as sculptural pieces that showcase Finazzi’s ability to harmonise disparate materials and forms. The combination of materials creates a compelling visual and tactile experience, showcasing the skill and creativity of Italian craftsmanship. Whether arranged around a dining table or displayed as standalone accent pieces, they encapsulate a bold design language, merging functionality with a strong artistic presence.
