Mid-Century Italian Armchair, Italy 1950s (sold)
Mid-Century Italian Armchair, Italy 1950s (sold)
This striking armchair showcases how and why Italy excelled in the coveted mid-century modern style. In this armchair, style meets functionality and quality.
Like many of the Italian armchairs of the 1950s, this chair radiates elegance and quality. The high wing-back and the upholstered armrests create a welcoming, cosy silhouette. The removable cushion and slightly tilted, wide backrest assures great sitting comfort. This chair has a masterful sense of balance, which is especially visible from the sides: the four legs are counterbalancing the arm- and seat rest, which is raised towards the front. Furthermore, the tapered front legs differ from the back legs that are more robust.
The chair has been recently reupholstered in premium velvet. The cobalt blue velvet upholstery complements the dark wooden legs beautifully, while also adding to the warm, elegant look. The chair is festooned with five tufted buttons. Another subtle, yet interesting detail is small line of rivets securing the upholstery to the legs.
