Danish Mid-Century Modern Handcrafted Oval Mirror, Denmark 1960s (sold)

$0.00

‎Fusing function and form, accent mirrors offer useful reflection while also providing an eye-catching focal point in a room. This beautiful, decorative Danish mirror has a defined look that is sure to stand out in any space.

This solid wood mirror has a perfectly oval shape framed by handcrafted pieces of calamander wood. Calamander (or coromandel) is a valuable hardwood, variegated with stripes of deep black and hazel-brown that creates the impression as if multiple species of woods were used. As a result of this, during the reign of Queen Victoria, calamander was considered one of the most exotic, luxurious and expensive woods to work with. The single wooden parts are placed at the edge of the mirror in a continual series, creating a dynamic look. This truly shows off the famous Danish craftsmanship. Furthermore, the wooden frame’s texture and diverse patterns emphasize the soft shape of the mirror glass. The organic material shaped by the elaborate woodworking techniques of this mirror immediately draw the eyes. While in many places, the later years of the mid-century era were dominated by industrial design, this mirror is all about the skilful, handmade quality that makes it special.

Accent mirrors can be great in small spaces as they can make a room look bigger. This Danish modern mirror has a strong and stylish presence that can both dominate and complement any style of interior.
