Scandinavian Modern Sofa with Dark Green Upholstery, Scandinavia 1940s (sold)

Scandinavian Modern Sofa with Dark Green Upholstery, Scandinavia 1940s (sold)

$0.00

Scandinavian countries have achieved world-wide renown by incorporating a modern aesthetic into their traditional craft industries. Resulting from this, era-defining pieces with an unparalleled inventiveness emerged. Consequently, Scandinavian design developed into a prominent contributor to European design philosophy, with many of the most well-known mid-century designers and furniture models hailing from the Nordic countries.

Characterised by functionality, simplicity and clean lines, this sofa is a material expression of Scandinavian design ideals. It possesses mid-century elements representative of its era, but is also constructed according to Scandinavian design traditions. This sofa is made of refined, classic materials - such as the stained wood used for constructing the solid frame and legs - while still maintaining a modern appearance. The piece appears very open and inviting, given the rounded edges, and specifically the soft, outward curving armrests. On each end of the backrest there is the added detail of four visible ridges, fanning out and complementing the sofa's rounded form. The upholstery is made of a soft, textured deep green material, which brings further visual interest to the piece. The look is completed by the beautiful dark stained wood visible on the front side of the armrests and on the legs; the pairing of these two colours offers a relaxing, natural feel to the sofa.

In Nordic design things are made to last rather than to be replaced, while the home enhances an unburdened lifestyle. Living well is in itself an art form, and furniture design is meant to complement it. This sofa is ideal to serve these purposes in an elegant, comfortable, and stylish manner.
