The 1960s is known as a golden age in Scandinavian design, with the emergence of a distinct style of minimalist furniture that developed from the frequent collaboration of skilled architects and cabinetmakers. Abandoning ornament in favor of form, Danish designers elevated everyday objects to sculptural status and created pieces that remain relevant in the design landscape today, while still carrying a sense of tradition and warmth from the use of northern materials. These "Ingrid" chairs are an honest embodiment of Scandinavian design principles, showcasing minimalist elegance coupled with excellent craftsmanship.
The model "Ingrid" combines clean lines with the organic warmth of premium-quality wood, as well as the exceptional and durable fabric of the seats. The design offers plenty visually, with a striking construction and personality. Each chair of the set showcases a beautiful wooden structure with unique, rich tones and fine grains running through the frames, which curve gently for ergonomic support. The slender, high backrests consist of a gracefully curved frame, with the back posts gently arching upward to meet the rounded ears with seamlessly crafted joints, showcasing the chairs’ fine construction. The backrests, complemented with the addition of three spindles that mirror the shape of the top rail, give a remarkably airy, light appearance. As the line moves downward, the construction of the backrest flows into the tapered legs, finishing the beautiful S-like bend of the structure and enhancing the chairs’ sculptural look. The shape of the wooden elements that create the seat incorporate an arched curve in their design, harmonizing with the form of the back rails and spindles. The craftsmanship is exceptional in every joint and contour, with the barely-noticeable connections making the whole structure an ergonomic piece to accommodate the sitter. The upholstered seats, in neutral fabric, provide comfort while maintaining the minimalist aesthetic of the set.
The manufacturer, Koefoed Møbelfabrik - formerly Koefoeds Hornslet - was named after the town Hornslet, where it was located together with two other prominent manufacturers, all specializing in different fields of the design industry. The family-owned factory, passed down from father to son, represented the mid-century Nordic design philosophy in both material and quality. This set of twelve dining room chairs, with their simplicity and honest elegance, lend an enduring look and appeal, making them a standout addition to any interior. The grain and tones of the genuine hardwood will bring warmth and character to any room.
