Scandinavian Modern furniture reflected the Scandinavian materials and craftsmanship and mixed them with a modern style. This early modern armchair is an elegant and comfortable evidence of the mastery and artistry of the Scandinavian cabinetmakers who defined mid-20th century modern seating.

In general, qualities of Scandinavian modern furniture included simple clean lines without excess decoration, and furniture was made with mostly solid wood, in this case, stained beech. Cabinetmaker chairs may seem similar at first sight, however each model’s individuality becomes evident upon closer inspection. In this armchair’s case, its sheer volume and the unique curves stand out immediately. From the subtly curving backrest to the round armrests, the design gives off a gentle, open impression. These characteristics help this armchair to achieve a synthesis between form and function in which aesthetics and utility come together in a purely Scandinavian manner. The fully upholstered wooden frame rests on dark-stained beech legs. Low feet support the chair, tapered in the back and round in the front which is a functional but also playful visual element. From the front the beautiful line tracing is visible, outlining the armrests that flow down to the legs.

The exceptionally soft, premium alpaca wool blend upholstery highlights the frame’s rounded edges and makes this armchair ideal to blend a stroke of modernity to any space, with a nod to comfort and simple artistry from the north.
